Health Alert: Physical Frailty May Be an Overlooked Risk Factor for Headaches. Frailty is a condition marked
by reduced strength, endurance, and resilience that makes it harder for the body to recover from illness or stress. In a
study of 2,108 adults aged 60 and older who were headache-free at the start, 22.8% of those considered pre-frail and
29% of those considered frail developed headaches within the following nine years, compared with 13% of robust
participants. Archives of Medical Science, April 2026
Diet: More Omega-3s in Early Life May Help Lower Childhood Asthma Risk. Asthma is a chronic
inflammatory disease of the airways that can cause wheezing, coughing, and difficulty breathing. A review of 12
clinical trials involving more than 4,100 participants found that omega-3 fatty acid supplementation during early life
was associated with a lower risk of childhood asthma or wheezing.
Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, August 2026
Exercise: Movement Guidelines Support Healthy Aging. The 24-Hour Movement Guidelines combine three
behaviors—regular moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, adequate sleep, and limiting sedentary time—to promote
overall health. Using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and China Health and Retirement
Longitudinal Study data, researchers found that adults who met all three criteria had a 67% lower risk of developing
frailty over seven years. Geriatrics & Gerontology International, August 2026
Chiropractic: Addressing Tight Hamstrings May Benefit Knee Osteoarthritis Patients. Osteoarthritis is the
most common form of arthritis and is characterized by the slow breakdown of the cartilage within joints, leading to
swelling, stiffness, and pain that tends to worsen with time. A systematic review that included nine studies and
twelve randomized controlled trials found that manual therapy focused on alleviating tight hamstring muscles helped
reduce pain and improve physical function in people with knee osteoarthritis. Frontiers in Medicine, July 2026
Mental Attitude: Risk-Taking in Early Teens May Predict Future Substance Use. Using data from the
Millennium Cohort Study, researchers found that 14-year-olds who showed greater risk-taking on a computerized
task were more likely to report substance use and gambling at age 14 and were more likely to begin using tobacco,
vaping products, cannabis, other drugs, or gambling by age 17. JCPP Advances, December 2025
Wellness/Prevention: Hearing Loss Is Becoming More Common in Young Adults. Using Global Burden of
Disease study data, researchers report that the number of adults under age 40 living with hearing loss increased from
171.8 million in 1992 to 256.2 million in 2021, with researchers projecting nearly 291.4 million cases by 2040.
While several factors likely contribute, recreational noise exposure and frequent headphone use may play an
important role, making hearing protection an increasingly important part of lifelong health.

Health Alert: Some Skin Conditions Could Point to Type 2 Diabetes. Using data from the Northern Finland Birth
Cohort 1966 study, researchers found that psoriasis and tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) were associated with type 2
diabetes. The findings suggest these skin conditions may be potential indicators of type 2 diabetes and could warrant
closer attention to a patient’s metabolic health. BMJ Open, July 2026
Diet: Higher Coffee Intake Linked to Healthier Body Composition. An analysis of data concerning 2,264
middle-aged adults found that higher coffee intake was associated with less total and visceral fat and greater skeletal
muscle mass. In men, higher coffee intake was also associated with higher total testosterone and a more favorable
glucose-insulin profile. European Journal of Nutrition, July 2026
Exercise: Physical Activity May Help Improve Balance in Children. Among 409 preschool-aged children,
researchers found that light physical activity was associated with better static balance at age five and better dynamic
balance at age six. The findings suggest that physical activity intensity may influence different aspects of balance in
different ways during early childhood. BMC Public Health, July 2026
Chiropractic: Ankle Function May Contribute to Future Lower Back Pain. Researchers found that low back
pain developed in 54.0% of people with an ankle injury, compared with 9.54% of healthy controls. Even after
adjusting for other risk factors, people with ankle injuries had about 19 times the risk of developing nonspecific low
back pain. The findings suggest that the potential effects of an ankle injury may extend beyond the ankle and
highlight the importance of appropriate rehabilitation following an injury. Past studies have found that manual
therapies provided by chiropractors may support recovery following an ankle sprain.
Research in Sports Medicine, July 2026
Mental Attitude: Routine Wellness Visits May Help Identify Early Cognitive Changes. A study that looked at
data from the Health and Retirement Study and Medicare claims found that Medicare Annual Wellness Visits are
associated with earlier detection of mild cognitive impairment, allowing patients and healthcare providers to evaluate
treatable factors linked to cognitive decline, including physical inactivity, smoking, sleep apnea, and
hypothyroidism. Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, July 2026
Wellness/Prevention: 1 in 3 Type 2 Diabetics Show Signs of Nerve Damage in the Feet. The vibration perception
threshold (VPT) test measures how well the nerves in the feet detect vibration using a handheld device called a
biothesiometer. In a study of 652 adults with type 2 diabetes, researchers found that 31% had an abnormal VPT,
indicating significant peripheral nerve dysfunction. Those with abnormal results were also much more likely to have
complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, heart, brain, and feet, highlighting the importance of routine nerve
screening. Diabetes & Vascular Disease Research, August 2026

Health Alert: Remnant Cholesterol May Reveal Hidden Metabolic Risk. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of
conditions—including high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, excess abdominal fat, and abnormal cholesterol
levels—that increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. In a study that included 3,011 adults, researchers
observed that higher levels of remnant cholesterol—a type of cholesterol that remains in the bloodstream after
triglyceride-rich particles have been partially broken down—were associated with up to a two-fold greater risk of
developing metabolic syndrome. Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases, July 2026
Diet: Eating More Fruits and Vegetables Linked to a Lower Risk of Depression. A review of 13 long-term
studies involving more than 385,000 adults found that every additional 200 grams of fruits and vegetables—
equivalent to 1 large apple, 2 medium peaches, 2 medium-to-large carrots, or 1.5 large bell peppers—consumed each
day was associated with a 16% lower risk of developing depression. Journal of Affective Disorders, July 2026
Exercise: Consistent Walking Supports Back Pain Recovery. Chiropractors often recommend exercise to help
people recover from chronic low back pain and reduce the risk of future episodes. A review of 13 clinical trials
found that accumulating about 1,000 minutes of walking over eight weeks was associated with the greatest reduction
in back pain, while about 900 minutes produced the greatest improvement in disability. PM&R, July 2026
Chiropractic: Treatment for Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction. The sacroiliac (SI) joints connect the base of the spine
to the pelvis and help transfer forces between the upper and lower body during standing and walking. When the
health of the joint is compromised, individuals may experience localized pain and/or referred pain into the back,
pelvis, or legs. A review of nine clinical studies found that manipulative techniques—such as those provided by
chiropractors—consistently improved pain and disability in people with sacroiliac joint dysfunction, with few
reported adverse effects. Archives of Physiotherapy, July 2026
Mental Attitude: Screen Time and Online Harassment Both Linked to Suicidal Thoughts. A survey of college
students found that both time spent online and online harassment were independently associated with suicidal
thoughts. Specifically, students spending more than three hours online each day had a 45% higher likelihood of
suicidal thoughts, while online harassment was associated with a 77% higher likelihood.
American Journal of Public Health, August 2026
Wellness/Prevention: Reducing Visceral Fat May Benefit Long-Term Colon Health. Visceral fat is the fat
stored deep inside the abdomen around internal organs. Unlike fat just beneath the skin, it is more closely linked to
chronic inflammation and disease. A review of more than 13 million adults found that central obesity was associated
with a 31% higher risk of colorectal cancer. BMC Cancer, July 2026

Health Alert: Thyroid Disorders Linked to a Higher Risk of Migraine. An analysis of multinational data from
the TriNetX Global Collaborative Network concerning more than 33 million adults revealed that both
hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) and hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid) were independently associated
with a higher prevalence of migraine. The findings suggest thyroid health may be an important consideration when
evaluating individuals with migraines. Headache, July 2026
Diet: A Potential Link Between Omega-6 Fatty Acids to Endometriosis and Infertility Risk. Endometriosis is a
condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, often causing pelvic pain and fertility
problems. In a study that included more than 115,000 adults, researchers found that higher circulating linoleic acid
(an omega-6 fatty acid found mainly in vegetable oils, nuts, and seeds) and total omega-6 fatty acid levels were
associated with increased risks of both endometriosis and infertility.
International Journal of Women’s Health, July 2026
Exercise: Exercise May Benefit Both Physical and Mental Health in Those with Type 2 Diabetes. Depression
commonly affects people with type 2 diabetes, reducing quality of life and making diabetes management more
challenging. A meta-analysis of 22 studies revealed structured exercise programs may improve depressive
symptoms, with mind-body exercise—such as tai chi or yoga—ranking as the most promising approach.
Frontiers in Public Health, July 2026
Chiropractic: Improving Sciatic Nerve Mobility May Help Some Cases of Hamstring Tightness. Past research
has linked tight hamstrings with low back pain, but muscle tightness is not always the only cause. In some people,
reduced movement of the sciatic nerve may contribute to limited hamstring flexibility. A recent research review
found that neural tissue mobilization—a hands-on technique that may be provided by chiropractors and is designed
to improve nerve movement—may help improve hamstring flexibility and pain-related outcomes.
Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy, July 2026
Mental Attitude: Omega-3 DHA May Play a Role in Mental and Metabolic Health. Docosahexaenoic acid
(DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid found mainly in fatty fish that may help reduce inflammation by promoting the
production of compounds that help resolve inflammatory responses. In a study of over 4,400 adults, higher DHA
blood levels were associated with 15% lower odds of having both central obesity and depression.
British Journal of Nutrition, August 2026
Wellness/Prevention: Cutting Back on Salt May Help Protect Brain Health. Following an analysis of data from
the Genome-Wide Association and UK Biobank studies, researchers report that higher salt intake may increase the
risk of dementia by up to 23%. BMC Neurology, July 2026
